It is 03rd April 2015. It is GOOD FRIDAY OF THE LORD’S PASSION. A day of Fasting and Abstinence. The readings are from Is.52:13-53:12; Heb. 4:14-16; 5:7-9 and the Gospel from Jn. 18:1-19:42. The first reading explains the Suffering Servant. The Servant here means Messiah who will be exalted because of His sacrifice. “My servant shall be exalted and lifted up and shall be very high.” (Is. 52:13). The Servant’s physical appearance is disfigured by the sinfulness of humanity. “He was wounded for our sins, crushed for our iniquities…. By His bruises we are healed.” (Is.53:5). We are the ones to be bruised, condemned and punished for our sins, yet He bore this all for us. “For He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” (Is.53:12). People of Israel were straying from God due to their sins. Today is the day we must give our life to Jesus who died for us. The second reading invites us to come closer to God experience His mercy and grace. “Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Heb.4:16). The responsorial Psalm prays with Jesus, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” (Lk.23:46). The Gospel narrates the entire episode of Jesus passion. May we spend some quality time with Jesus. It is also time to reflect the narratives of different evangeliser on Passion of our Lord. It is good participate in a community organised Way of the Cross. Do your best to avoid all sinful moments and just accompany Jesus. May His Passion and Death wash us all clean one more time from all our personal attachments to sins. May God bless you.
