It is 18th April 2015. The readings are from Acts.6:1-7 and the Gospel from Jn. 6:16-21. The first reading speaks about the disagreement between the “Hellenists,” and the “Hebrews,” in caring for the poor and the widows. The Hebrews who were majority neglecting the Hellenist minority community in feeding the poor. The Apostles wanted to give importance to the Word of God without neglecting the poor. “It is not right that we should neglect the word of God in order to wait on tables.” (Acts.6:2). So they chose the Seven who are “full of faith and the Holy Spirit,” (Acts 6:5) to serve the table of the people while the Apostles could “devote themselves to prayer and to serving the Word.” (Acts.6:4). Those who would like to lead people in the Church have to be spiritually mature and wise. There must be a balance between proclamation and administration. The Word of God spreads faster when the service to the poor are in place in the Church. The responsorial Psalm prays, “May your love be upon us, O Lord, as we place all our hope in you.” (Ps.32:22). The Gospel presents Jesus’ walking on the water. Jesus approaching the disciples when they caught up in storm. In a stormy situation, even God would like a threatening figure. “They saw Jesus near the boat, walking on the water; and they were terrified.” (Jn. 6:19). In spite of fearful situations, we need to put our trust in Jesus to be safe. “It is I; don’t be afraid.” (Jn.6:20). We can overcome any fear and stormy situation with Jesus. He removes all our fears no matter how unexpected storm in our life could be. Let us not be afraid any situation of dissension. With the help of the Holy Spirit and the wisdom that comes from Jesus we can face it all. May the Lord bless you.
