It is 18th May 2015. The readings are from Acts.19:1-8 and the Gospel from Jn.16:29-33. The first reading points out the importance of the Holy Spirit in our spiritual life. “When you believed, did you receive the Holy Spirit? They said to him “No, we never even heard that the Holy Spirit exists.” (Acts. 19:2). John’s baptism was a personal purification and a call for a penance. But our baptism provides a means to die for our sins to rise with Jesus to a New Life. The culmination of the Easter is by the coming of the Holy Spirit. Our spiritual life is not complete without the presence and His activity of the Holy Spirit. We become mature and total Christian only when we receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit leads us to the truth, makes us to love better and to bear witness to Jesus. The responsorial Psalm prays, “Kingdoms of the earth, sing to God.” (Ps.67:33). The Gospel invites the disciples what they must believe in after the departure of Jesus. Jesus has overcome the world. So much to face in this world, yet our relationship with Jesus makes it easy to have easy grip of things with peace and comfort. Jesus wants us to be courageous people. It is the spiritual courage which built on the unshakable confidence in Jesus that He is with us. We are not alone in fighting a battle of life. Jesus has fought the ultimate battle and won. So we need to face the troubles of the world with courage and faith from the Holy Spirit. “In the world you face persecution. But take courage; I have conquered the world.” (Jn. 16:33). May you have a blessed day.
