It is 12th June 2015. We celebrate the Solemnity of Sacred Heart of Jesus. Devotion to Sacred of Jesus is the direct response to the person of Jesus. Jesus expressed his desire to be loved by the humankind and on each one he would bestow his immense treasures of love, of mercy, of grace, of sanctification and salvation. through a vision to Margaret Mary. The devotion to the Sacred Heart began on Calvary when the Heart of Christ was pierced on the Cross. God wants us to love God without any condition. The Sacred Heart symbolizes the divine love of Jesus. It was on June 11, 1899 Pope Leo XIII solemnly consecrated the whole humankind to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In 1928 Pope Pius XI approved the devotion to the Sacred Heart. It is also a day of sanctification for the Priest. The readings are from Hos. 11:1-4, 8-9; Eph. 3:8-19; and the Gospel is from Jn. 19:31-37. The first reading brings out the deep love of God on people. God is not interested in overturning our lives. God repeatedly and abundantly loving us. “I will not let the flames consume you.” (Hos.11:9). In the second reading, from the Letter to the Ephesians St. Paul describes the love of Christ. “In Jesus we have access to God in boldness and confidence through faith.” (Eph.3:12). In the responsorial Psalm we are promised, “You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation.” (Is.12:3). The Gospel reminds us that the last drop of blood from Jesus was shed for our salvation. “One of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once blood and water came out.” (Jn.19:34). The blood and water that flowed out signified those two great benefits which all of us partake of through Christ, justification and sanctification; blood for atonement, and water for purification. On this solemnity of Sacred Heart, we are to experience this Divine love which is the highest of three levels of love; Divine love, spiritual love and physical love. God manifested himself as human person to expound this love for us. It is our turn now in the world to show the same love to others. May God bless you and have a good day.
