It is 13th June 2015. We celebrate the memorial of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Antony of Padua, Priest and Doctor. The readings are from Is.61:9-11 and the Gospel from Lk. 2:41-51. The first reading reminds us of our Mother Mary. “I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness.” (Is.61:10). The Immaculate Heart of Mary brings us closer to the heart of Jesus. Both hearts are pierced because of love . In 1942, Pope Pius XII consecrated the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The focus of this devotion is to unite humankind to God through Mary’s heart, through a process of consecration and reparation. We need to consecrate ourselves to Mary’s Immaculate Heart as a way of being completely devoted to God, with Mary as our intercessor in this process of consecration. As St Paul said: “I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, the church .” (Col 1:24). Let us also focus on her immaculate or sinless state. Honouring her means that we accept and recognise her Divine Motherhood and her participation in the divine plan. The Gospel brings out the importance of the heart of Mother Mary and her response to the events that made the Immaculate Heart to go through. “His mother treasured all these things in her heart.” (Lk.2:51). We have to consecrate our lives to the Immaculate Heart Mary too. Mother Mary wants us all to be united and to go near Jesus closer than ever. May we keep our hearts for the Lord always. May you have a good day.
