It is 31st August 2015. The readings are from 1 Thess.4:13-18 and the Gospel from Lk. 4:16-30. The first reading encourages us to have faith in God while facing our final end. Paul clarifies that there is no extra merit between those who have died before the Second Coming and on the second coming of Jesus Christ. It is our faith in the Lord which makes us to accept the reality of death as a joyful event and celebration of hope to meet the Lord. It is not a time of mourning rather it is time of expressing and celebrating the victory of Jesus over death. “We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and that it will be the same for those who have died in Jesus.” (1 Thess.4:14). The responsorial Psalm prays, “The Lord comes to rule the earth.” (Ps.95:13). The Gospel brings out the manifesto of Jesus. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” (Lk.4:18). Jesus quotes from Isaiah 61:1,2. Isaiah refers this passage to the future messianic age. Let us not give up on God when we are not understood and accepted by others. It is good to have a vision with the mission in our minds so as to serve God and people. May God bless you to have faith in God so as to accomplish God’s plan in your life. Have a day filled with peace and blessings.
