It is 01st September 2015. The readings are from 1 Thess.5:1-6, 9-11 and the Gospel from Lk.4:31-37. The first reading offers a clear answer for our spiritual question that when is the end of the world? St. Paul tell us that the end will be unexpected, sudden and definite yet no one knows the timing. There are two trends of understandings in answering this crucial question. Some believed in the early church that the end is so close at hand and some others assumed that the end is unknown even to Jesus except God and it happens when least expected. Our response to this question is to live our daily life in holiness, and united with the Lord and for the welfare of others. What have we done in our lives for others is so significant for our personal salvation. Our pure and sincere encouragement for one another and uplifting the spirit of one another will help us to face the Lord in peace and reconciliation. “But you, beloved, are not in darkness, for that day to surprise you like a thief; for you are all children of light and children of the day.” (1Thess.5:4-5). The responsorial Psalm prays, “I am sure I shall see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.” (Ps.26:13). The Gospel brings out the power of Jesus acknowledged by demons while his people rejected him. Jesus has the power over the devils. His final judgement is to annihilate the clutches of the demons on us and cast the devil into its destiny until then the roaring of the devil will be seen, heard and witnessed in many ways in our lives and in the world. Let us trust the authority of Jesus over devils and submit ourselves and live in the light daily. May you have a peaceful day. God bless you.
