It is 25th September 2015. The readings are from Hag.2:1-9 and the Gospel from Lk.9:18-22. The first reading presents the rebuilding of the Temple. The mission of prophet Haggai was to restore the temple. Since he enjoyed the political as well as the religious leaders support, he could encourage them to do the best for God. To God belong the best. “Mine is the silver, mine is the gold.” (Hag. 2:8). The best and the precious belongs to God. God is worthy of the best. It is not only material things but also the human persons. God promises peace and prosperity in His Temple. “My spirit abides among you; do not fear.” (Hag.2:4). The responsorial Psalm prays, “Hope in God; I will praise him still, my savior and my God.” (Ps.42:5). In the Gospel, Jesus wants us to know who people think of Him. People assessed him wrong while the apostle Peter confessed Him openly that Jesus is Christ. Jesus is the suffering servant of God. Jesus is not a political, and a glorious messiah. Yes, Jesus is the long awaited Messiah, yet He has to go through the humiliation, suffering, rejection and finally be killed. The disciples would only will understand the deeper meaning of Messiah through His suffering and death. Jesus wants us to take a stand for Him. Who do you say Jesus is for you? May God bless you.
