It is 18th October 2015. We celebrate the Mission Sunday. The readings are from Is. 53:10-11; Heb.4:14-16 and the Gospel from Mk.10:35-45. The church proclaims strongly in the apostolic exhortation Evangeli Nuntiandi, 14: “Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize, that is to say, in order to preach and teach, to be the channel of the gift of grace, to reconcile sinners with God, and to perpetuate Christ’s sacrifice in the Mass, which is the memorial of His death and glorious resurrection.” We each one of us are called to be a missionary in a given situation being a witness for the Lord. We, the Church must be bold enough to proclaim the Gospel culture through our personal initiatives of witness in our Small Christian Communities we belong. We need to allow the Gospel and its message to cleanse us before it reaches the other. Furthermore, we read in the same document, No. 24. “Evangelization is a complex process made up of varied elements: the renewal of humanity, witness, explicit proclamation, inner adherence, entry into the community, acceptance of signs, apostolic initiative.” The first reading suggests that a missionary is a suffering servant for God and God’s people. The second reading invites us all to approach the throne of mercy. The Gospel challenges us to achieve greatness through humble, sacrificial service: Jesus summarized his mission in one sentence: “The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mk.10:45) Pope Francis insists we need have a personal relationship with Christ, and he adds in Mission Sunday message: “In the full range of the Church’s missionary activity, all the faithful are called to live their baptismal commitment to the fullest, in accordance with the personal situation of each.” May God bless you to be God’s instruments in sharing God’s love with all.
