It is 01st November 2015. We celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints. The readings are from Rev.7:2-4, 9-14; 1 Jn.3:1-3 and the Gospel from Mt. 5:1-12a. This is the feast for all who have been declared and yet to be declared by the Church as saints. Sanctity is possible for everyone. Today we remember those countless unknown men, women and children who have pleased God. These are our heroes of our faith. It is our mother Church recognizes the heroic work of an individual and canonizes the person to be venerated. Church does not manufacture saints rather it recognizes the saintliness and declares it. There is no uniformity in their holiness. “If she and he can be saint, why can’t I.” declared by St. Augustine. We all can become saints if we obey God and lead a simple and holy life without much publicity. The first reading clearly reveals our destination. Through our Baptism we are all marked with the indelible seal of Christ. Our bodies could be beaten, maimed, or even destroyed but nothing can harm our souls when we have been sealed by God. The multitude in heaven is composed of all who obeyed God and being faithful to God till the end. The Catechism points out in CCC 1024, “Heaven is the ultimate end and fulfillment of the deepest human longings, the state of supreme, definitive happiness.” The second reading offers the hope to see God as God is. The Gospel reassures and provides a roadmap for holiness. “Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.” (Mt.5:8). St. Francis of Assisi exhorted us, “Let us begin to serve the Lord God, because until now we have done little or nothing for God.” May God give you peace.
