It is 04th January 2016. The readings are from 1 John 3:7-10 and the Gospel from John 1:35-42. The first reading urges us to discern before accepting any belief. We need to ask whether this emerges out of our faith tradition and the will of God. Truth is alive and vibrant. Obeying commandments of God means doing the will of God. No can obey the commandments of God without the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit who helps us to discern the good and interpret it. Since we are the children of God, we cannot engage ourselves in contrary to our very selves. We betray God’s love for us whenever we lead a sinful and selfish life. To be holy is not invitation rather it is the substance of belonging to God’s family. “God’s seed,” (1Jn.3:9) a distinctive character in us. The responsorial Psalm prays, “All the ends of the earth have the salvation of our God.” (97:3). The Gospel invites us to meet the Messiah, Jesus Christ. The call of St. Andrew brought Simon Peter to Jesus. As John the Baptist recognised Jesus and lead the others to Him, we need to recognise Jesus in the Holy Eucharist on a daily basis and to lead others to Jesus. We have been believing Jesus for quiet long, how many of our family members, friends, relatives and neighbours brought to Jesus through our faith initiatives? May God bless you with peace.
