It is 01st February 2016. The readings are from 2 Sam. 5:13-14, 30; 16:5-13 and the Gospel from Mk. 5:1-20. The first reading talks about the insult David went through due to his old age and the evil plot a young prince Absalom trying to steal the kingship of David. David had to flee from his own son. One of the family members of Saul insulted David and cursed him for being a king in the place of Saul. What do we do when we are insulted and cursed? Even a king is not spared in this regard. We all can learn a powerful lesson from David. We just need to ignore the insult and shut our ears. “It may be that the Lord will look on my distress, and the Lord will repay me with good for this cursing of me today.” (2 Sam.16:12). In every insult, we have something to ignore, something to listen carefully and many things to forget. Humbling experiences like the insults and curses are the best teachers of our lives. We must turn these insults into moments of prayer. The responsorial Psalm submits, “Arise, Lord; save me, my God.” (Ps.3:8). The Gospel depicts the power of Jesus over demons. Jesus healed a demon possessed man. Even though number of demons lived in this man were many, Jesus sets the man free from the forces of satanic spirits. Jesus grants us all the freedom from sin and the control of Satan. Are we willing to be a proclaimer of the power of Jesus? Jesus has healed us one time or the other, why haven’t we become an enthusiastic messenger of Jesus? May God grant you peace and courage.
