It is 28th February 2016. It is the Third Sunday of Lent. The readings are from Exodus 3:1-8, 13-15; 1Corinthians 10:1-6, 10-12; and the Gospel from Luke 13:1-9. The first reading points out a loving intervention of God in the life of people of Israel while they were under slavery. God calls Moses and reveals God’s identity and the name. God is interested in our welfare. God wants us to redeem us from all kinds of slavery. God will not keep quiet while God’s people are under foot of the oppressors. The burning bush is still amidst us; we must have the faith and humility to witness and to set people free. “Therefore I have come down to rescue my people from the slavery and lead them out of that land into a good and spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey.” (Ex.3:8). The responsorial Psalm praises, “The Lord is kind and merciful.” (Ps.103:8). St. Paul wants us to learn a lesson from the life of the people with Moses in the desert. We must never wish evil things and never to grumble in doing the will of God. In order to avoid repeating the same mistakes of the old, we must familiarize with God’s Words. Human heart has a tendency to forget the good things the Lord has down in the past. The Gospel reprimands us to look into ourselves and willing to meet the merciful God. God is visiting our hearts looking for mercy, love and good works coupled with the unshakable faith in God. God wants us to bear fruits of goodness, kindness and compassion. The Lent is the time we are asking God to give us one more chance to deal with the productive process. God will not tolerate forever our lack of productivity in spiritual lives. God as the gardener of our hearts visiting us during this time of mercy. Have we got anything to offer in return? It is indeed much due in our lives to bring out the best. May we not disappoint God this year too. Have a good day.
