It is 08th March 2016. The readings are from Ezekiel 47:1-9, 12; and the Gospel from John 5:1-3, 5-16. The first reading gently reminds us that the life giving water from God is needed for the sustenance and growth of humanity. The water symbolises life from God which is gentle, safe, purifying and life giving. It is also a reminder the waters of baptism purifies our whole being from all sins. As the life giving water from the temple freshens the Dead sea, so Jesus the living water transform our whole being no matter how lifeless and corrupt we may be. The responsorial Psalm praises, “The Lord of hosts is with us: the God of Jacob is our stronghold.” (Ps.45:8). The Gospel offers a great hope through Jesus. A man was there for 38 year lame and looking for healing. Jesus is willing to offer the healing we desire under one assurance from us that we will not sin anymore. Even if the whole world is not interested in leading us to the integral healing, Jesus is very much interested in our well-being. What is required of us is to stop sinning after being healed by Jesus. It is the gratitude and faithfulness for what Jesus has done to us. “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” (Jn.5:14). Jesus notices our sickness and failures and eventually He comes to help us even if all others are too busy with their things. Let us grow in sensitivity and selflessness in displaying our compassion to those who are in need of our assistance. Let us become a life-giving hope to others just because we believe Jesus. May you have a good day.
