It is 30th March 2016. The readings are from Acts 3:1-10; and the Gospel from Luke 24:13-35. The first reading is the account of healing using the name of the Risen Lord by the apostle St. Peter. It is an invitation to the lame man at the Beautiful Gate of the temple. We have something so special to offer to the world around us because of our faith in the Risen Lord. We have Jesus to offer to those who are in need. It is time to be merciful not only materially and also spiritually. In this miracle, the lame beggar is not only healed and he was admitted to the temple just because the lame, the blind and the pagans were refused entrance into the temple. Even though the apostles were still grieving, they went out of their way to restore the dignity, humanity of this man through a healing. Every encounter with the other could turn into a healing moment when we know whom we are sharing. As long as we share Jesus, there is a healing. “I have neither silver nor gold but I will give you what I have: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, walk!” (Acts.3:6). The responsorial Psalm acclaims, “Let the hearts that seek the Lord rejoice.” (Ps.104:3). The Gospel brings out a personal encounter with his followers on the road to Emmaus. Breaking of bread and sharing the Scripture in the deeper level made them to realise that Jesus is risen. “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” (Lk.24:29). Jesus is with us through the sacraments of the Church and in the poor. He is walking with us yet we are not recognising Him due to the ignorance of the Scripture. In entertaining the stranger, they encountered the Risen Lord Jesus. It is a theophany of God revealing himself through the simple Eucharistic acts of breaking His words and the bread. The Easter is the time to go beyond our comfort zone and our personal grief and disappoints to extend a helping hand to someone with the compassion of the Risen Lord. May you have good day.
