It is 04th April 2016. We celebrate the Solemnity of The Annunciation of the Lord. The announcement by Angel Gabriel that Mother Mary would give birth to the Saviour of world. This is the celebration Mary’s Fiat. Divinity in dialogue with the humanity for its salvation and spiritual survival. Only in humility, we begin to hear the voice of God. Mother Mary willingly and generously participates in the redemptive work of her beloved Son Jesus Christ. Mary responded positively to the plan of God. The Catechism teaches us in number 484: “The Annunciation to Mary inaugurates ‘the fullness of time,’ the time of the fulfilment of God’s promises and preparations.” The readings are from Isaiah 7:10-14, 8:10; Hebrews 10:4-10; and the Gospel from Luke 1:26-38. The first reading is the prophecy about the birth of Jesus. “The virgin shall be with child, and bear a son, and shall name him Emmanuel, which means ‘God is with us.” (Is.8:10). The responsorial psalm prays, “Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.” (Ps. 40:8,9). In the second reading, the author of Hebrews tells us that doing the will of God is the consecration of our very selves. Christ came to offer His body so that we are saved. We are saved by this very consecration of Christ. Every consecration involves the humility and sacrifice. “By this ‘will’ we have been consecrated through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. (Heb.10:10). Let us learn to do the will of God by offering ourselves for the service of God. The Gospel brings out the life changing response of Mother Mary while Abraham’s wife laughed at the plan of God and Zechariah doubted it. As our beloved mother Mary, we need to respond to God’s will humbly and positively. Mary said, ‘Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” (Lk.1:38). May you have a good day.
