It is 20th April 2016. The readings are from Acts 12:24-13:5; and the Gospel from John 12:44-50. The first reading describes the presence and the intentions of the Holy Spirit in the Church. It is time to embark on mission for the church. The primary work of the church is to evangelise and to make the message of Christ known to all people. Barnabas and Saul were handpicked by the Holy Spirit for this task of the mission. “I want Barnabas and Saul set apart for the work to which I have called them.” (Acts.13:2). The Holy Spirit demands a task from each one of us. By the virtue of Baptism, we too are set apart for the task of evangelisation. We are the bearer of the light of Christ in the world. The responsorial Psalm acclaims, “Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the people praise you.” (Ps.66:4). The Gospel offers the summary of the message and teaching of Jesus. The message of the Lord motivates us to distinguish between darkness and light, seeing and believing, hearing and witnessing, judging and saving. “I, the light, have into the world, so that whoever believes in me need not stay in the dark anymore.” ( Jn.12:46). Our responsibility is to experience the light of Christ and encouraging others to come near the same light. When we have the spirit of lies and suspicion, it is indeed a challenge to experience the Light of Christ. May the Holy Spirit help us to know and experience Jesus, the light of our lives. May you have a good day.
