It is 04th May 2016. The readings are from Acts 17:15, 22-18:1; and the Gospel from John 16:12-15. The first reading brings out the preaching of St. Paul in Athens. He talked to them about their ignorance in worshipping an unknown God and leading them to understand the living God. He wished to lead them from what they were familiar with to what leads them to a deeper knowledge. “Well, the God whom I proclaim is in fact the one whom you already worship without knowing it.” (Acts. 17:23). But, people ridiculed him and ignored him; a few of them responded to his preaching. The responsorial Psalm praises, “Your glory fills all heaven and earth.” (Ps.148:14). The Gospel invites us to be open to more learning from the Spirit of God. God continues to reveal through the Scripture and through the Traditions of the Church. Jesus wants to expand our understanding, knowledge and faith in God. “I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you now.” (Jn.16:12). We can never learn about God by our own effort completely. The entire truth is revealed through the power of the Holy Spirit. We must have Child-like openness and willingness to learn from the Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit never teaches another Good News rather the Spirit of God informs us, strengthens and reveals us the inner levels of the revelations in the Scripture. May the Lord help us to learn from the Holy Spirit. Have a good day.
