It is 30th August 2016. The readings are from 1 Corinthians 2:10-16; and the Gospel from Luke 4:31-37. In the first reading, St. Paul teaches us that as long as we have the mind of Christ ruled by the Holy Spirit, we can enjoy knowing God. Our privilege to call God as our father is the state of grace and it is the resourceful state spiritually. “The depth of God can only be known by the Spirit of God.” (1 Cor. 2:10). St. Paul differentiates between physical life and spiritual life. Those who are led by the instincts of human emotions such as pride, lust and greed find it hard to believe the spiritual obligations and its effects. And that is why, those who led by the physical desires are misled by the evil spirit to forget the intentions of the Creator God that is to know God, to love God, to obey God, serve God and at the end to be with God in Heaven. The responsorial Psalm praises, “The Lord is just in all his ways.” (Ps.144:17). The Gospel points out that Jesus has the authority over all the unclean spirit. The devil always opposes Jesus yet recognizes the mighty power and authority of Jesus over all kinds of evil. We must not be afraid of the devil when we are led by the Spirit of God. Jesus defends us and protects us always as He protected the man in today’s Gospel. Let us give importance to our spiritual life so as to make the rest of our lives more beautiful and meaningful. May you have a peaceful day. May God bless you.
