It is 14th December 2016. We celebrate the memorial of St John of the Cross, Priest and the Doctor of the Church. The readings are from Isaiah 45:6-8; 18,21b-25 and the Gospel from Luke 7:19-23. The first reading brings out the uncompromising image of our ever loving and constantly protecting God. There is none like our God when it comes for affection and providence. It is God who created everything that exists and there is no parallel creator to God. God’s substance is truth and light; God promises are certain and God does not change by time. God’s salvation is for all and no is exempted to follow God and walk in the light and truth. The opportunities of love and forgiveness are in surplus in God. God is the source of light and darkness, peace and calamity. God remembers God’s creation more than the creation remembers God. “I am the Lord, unrivalled, there is no other God besides me, a God of integrity and a saviour; there is none but me.” (Is. 45:21). The responsorial verse prays, Let the clouds rain down the Just One, and the earth bring forth a Saviour.” ( Is. 45:8). The Gospel instils in us a strong belief that there one God and one Saviour Jesus Christ for us all. Therefore is no need to look for someone for our personal salvation other than Jesus Christ. Our true joy lies hidden in the healing rays of the Messiah. “Happy is the one who finds me in faith.” (Lk. 7:23). May you have a joyful day.
