It is 2nd January 2017. We celebrate the memorial of Saints Basil the Great and Gregory Nazianzen, Bishops and the Doctors of the Church. The readings are from 1 John 2:22-28; and the Gospel from John 1:19-28. The first readings presents us with the disagreement on the divinity in humanly seen Jesus. People found it hard to accept the unity of the person in Christ Jesus. Jesus and Father are one and Jesus is the Christ, and the Son of God. Eternal life is unthinkable through any person in the whole of creation except Jesus Christ. We must be careful about those who deviate our focus on Jesus Christ. Since we all are anointed by the Sacrament of Baptism and Confirmation, we must learn to listen to the Holy Spirit, perpetual teacher deep within each one of us. Our living in Christ on a daily basis and witnessing the Word through our personal sacrifices and sanctification make us to connect with the Truth and to spot the eternal liar and his lies. The responsorial Psalm praises, “All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.” (Ps.97:3). The Gospel shows us how John the Baptist prepared the way for Jesus. We each one of us need to prepare the way for Christ in our daily endeavors. We need to recognize the divine presence of the Messiah among us and to promote His values in day today lives. Who is Jesus for me? What is He to me as a believer? Unless and until we recognize Jesus as the Son of God, we will be misled by the evil one. Beware of the liar and his lies in us and around us. May you have a good day. God bless you.
