It is 21st November 2019. We celebrate the memorial of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The readings are from Zechariah 2:14-17; and the Gospel from Matthew 12:46-50. This celebration reminds us about the total dedication to God’s service and obedience God’s will in the life of Blessed Virgin Mary. Parents love their children and want to give the best for the children materially forgetting the spiritual empowerment. Children repeatedly reminded by their parents to be successful materially and to equip themselves with multi skills. Seldom we see parents consecrate their children to God and educate them in the fear of God and leading them to obey God by their own examples. Parents need to be holy and God fearing in order to consecrate their children to God. As Joachim and Anne did for Mary, the parents must help their children to find their vocation and to reach their dreams without imposing their own. Parents need to initiate an intimate relationship with the Lord right from the start in the life of children. We are taught in our readings that we must do the will of God as that our beloved Mother Mary. The Responsorial Verse acclaims, “The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his Name.” The Gospel concurs with the theme of the celebration that like our Mother Mary, we need to do will of God right from the childhood. “For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” (Mt. 12:50). Mary qualified this honour not only by maternal connection and through unquestioning obedience to the Father. Let us put ourselves especially our children at the service of God and the Church. May you have a good day. God bless you.
