It is 2nd December 2019. The readings are from Isaiah 4:2-6; and the Gospel from Matthew 8:5-11. God alone can offer humanity the lasting peace through Jesus. God alone can provide security over natural and spiritual storm and clouds that threaten our existences. One Word from God is enough for us to be healed and covered from the past shame and guilt. “He cast out the spirits with a word, and cured all who were sick. ‘He took our infirmities and bore our diseases.’” (Mt 8:16f) The first reading continues to expound on hope. “Then the Lord will create over the whole of assembly a cloud by day and smoke with the flaming fire by night. There will be a canopy to serve as a pavilion, a shade by day from the heat, and a refuge and a shelter from the storm and rain.” (Is.4:6). We are to experience the warm and protection of God all through our lives as we come closer to God. The responsorial Psalm praises, “Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.” (Ps.122:1). The Gospel presents us with the cure of the centurion’s servant. The word of Jesus is sufficient enough to heal the servant. “The centurion answered, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof; but only speak the word, and my servant will be healed.” (Mt.8:8). Even today in our lives the same word of Jesus could penetrate our being and heal our wounds when we have the faith like that of the centurion. The healing race of Jesus permeates every race and space. Healing of Jesus is not reserved to one type of people or tribe; it is the faith in Jesus that offers us the healing to all people. May we be strengthened in our faith and be assured that the Lord is there to cure us always when we are willing to come near Him. May you have a good day. May God bless you.
