It is 30th May 2020.
We celebrate the memorial of St. Joan of Arc, martyr.
The readings are from Acts 28:16-20, 30-31; and the Gospel from John 21:20-25.
As we complete reading and reflecting both Acts of the Apostles and John at the close of Easter time and preparing ourselves to receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
Paul in the house arrest in Rome. Every road lead to Rome. It was considered that Rome was the end of the earth. He was not exhausted to preach about the Risen Lord even in such condition. “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem…and to the ends of the earth.”
However limited and controlled we can be during this pandemic, we are to continue the mission that is entrusted to us whether we are young, matured and growing up.
Paul’s end is the beginning of the Church in Rome. Every end trigger and inspires many to continue and pursue a path that is new and innovative. The Holy Spirit equips us and enlighten us to continue our journey even if the roads are closed. Our minds, and hearts are still open for the message of Gospel amidst all odds.
Everyone wants to emulate someone in their life because of something that touched them and inspired them. But Jesus wants us to follow Him not remain just inspired by Him. Following demands the entire focus on Jesus not on those distract us from Christ. Whatever we have not understood and find it hard to believe and accept, the Holy spirit continues to teach us every day.
The responsorial Psalm pleads, “Lord, send out your Spirit and renew the face of the earth.” (Ps.103:35)
The Gospel encourages us to be focused on Jesus as a witness. Having accepted the responsibility to lead, Peter enquired Jesus about the future of the beloved disciple. The intention of Jesus is that we need to go on doing our part not preoccupied with other people and their failures and success. We all have something to live on. No one can replace our significant part we are to play. What is written and shared in the Good News is enough our salvation. Stimulating minds with research on the Word of God alone not sufficient to inspire the world. There are millions of testimonies of faith yet to be written by us who are the beloved followers of Jesus. Opportunities to be a witness to the Word of God have not reduced. Our openness needs to be wider and our generosity is to be broader to continue with the works of the Holy Spirit. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of Your love. Send forth Your Spirit, and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth. May the Lord fill us with the Holy Spirit to be the witness of love and hope to the people around. May you have good day. God bless you.
